Why Testosterone?Females have testosterone in their bodies as well as estrogen and progesterone. Female levels are lower than males, peak in their mid 20s and then gradually fall to very low or undetectable levels throughout their lifetime. As the levels fall, symptoms of low T often present. These include low sex drive, depression and anxiety, physical exhaustion, thinning hair and dry skin, sleep issues, osteoarthritis with joint pain, muscle and bone weakness, vaginal dryness and pain with intercourse.
Men may be offered testosterone replacement but women, in the absence of an FDA approved bio-identical product are given anti-depressants, sleeping pills and osteoporosis medications. Sexual support is even more limited. These are not the answer. Testosterone delivered in a pellet system is bio-identical, highly bio-available and raises levels quickly and predictably. Pellets more closely mimic the bodies natural delivery system, bypassing the liver and avoiding some of the side effects caused by oral delivery systems. Side effects may include mild facial hair growth and, if very prone, mild acne. These side effects can be managed comfortably in most cases and few patients discontinue therapy because of them. Testosterone has been shown to reduce breast density and, in some studies, to reduce the risk of breast cancer. Patients at high risk can even choose to add an estrogen blocker as well to further reduce risk and still remain comfortable from menopausal symptoms. If estrogen and/or progesterone therapy are indicated to fully relieve symptoms they can be incorporated into the program using creams, patches or capsules as needed in appropriate patients. |
We obtain our pellets from compounding facilities that are FDA regulated (this is different from the drug being FDA approved). The pharmacies perform third party testing of pellet batches for both purity and potency. In ten years of providing pellets to patients, we have found this treatment to be safe, effective and have a very high patient satisfaction with many of our first patients continuing the treatment currently.
